And now I’ll have to squint at R1’s ion-missile volleys & see how many shots it took that half-squad to knock out a locally-unshielded Impstar-I.Īs for G-forces, I recall some X-wing novel monologue re: inertial compensators being so damn effective that veteran pilots dial ’em down just enough to retain proper ‘feel’ for their fighters. Suppose this explains where the Rebellion came by at least some ofl those Nebulons…and no wonder Gold Squad got first crack at those trench runs, miserable as that assignment was even without being sitting ducks for Vader. My theory is that the 418 dropped shields entirely to allow troop deployment, and was subsequently left vulnerable due to Pryce’s poor judgment.īesides, in addition to small arms, the Interdictor suffered a crashing TIE’s kamikaze hit, a prolonged strafe from 6 Mandalorian heavy fighters, a dozen backpack mounted rockets, and friendly fire from nearby Imperial fighters and capital ships looking to pick off Ezra’s strike team.Īllowing a political leader to make these kind of snap judgement calls in combat seems to be a more plausible explanation for the loss of the Interdictor than any equipment deficiency to me, but hey, what do I recall some discussion (possibly on one of the Legator WIP pages) re: CIS frigates’ sporting rather more skeletal superstructures than KDY craft of similar volume, but still: damn. After too many rewatches, I noticed that small arms seemed to be causing small blue shield ripples initially on the grav-well projectors, but after Pryce ordered out some typically ineffectual jump troops to engage the Mandalorians in a firefight, the generators started taking physical damage. In Rebels, I’d agree with your MTL assessment for the 418s. The vulture droid does seem to roughly equivalent to an A-Wing, although probably more maneuverable due to not having to keep G-forces at a survivable level. Granted, the Separatists had just suffered the loss of their Lucrehulk command and control ship, the bomber crews in question were force-assisted elite clone pilots, and there wasn’t a vulture droid CAP out, but 6 heavy star frigates destroyed in under a minute by 12 Y-wings has to be some kind of record. At Ryloth during the Clone Wars, Ahsoka’s single Y-wing squadron was able to inflict catastrophic damage to at least 6 Munificent frigates in a matter of seconds without taking any on-screen losses and any support from their Venator carrier’s HTL batteries. Too bad the grav-wells seem to be about as small-arms-proofed as Federation warp cores on a bad day.īombers in general seem to be fairly effective against capital ships in the various animations. Not sure how much the surrounding Impstars had tenderized that spindly bugger, but I’d say this still confirms MTL capacity for Disneyboot 418s. Speaking of Rebels, happened to notice one of the season finale’s Immobilizers finishing off a Nebulon-B. As for Vultures, unsure whether their lasers & energy missiles render ’em any punchier than an A-wing (which is still plenty for component strikes through shield gaps, natch).
Inexpungable might be densely-shielded enough to soak up such an assault, but a Republic/GCW-era ship of comparable bulk might be bristling with enough point defense & fighter screen to save itself said pounding in the first place. It depends on what size/reactor-yield capitals you throw the droid bomber wings after-having seen what the TIE/sa can do to CR90s (possible single-strike kill during Nu!Thrawn’s little siege) & Quasar Fires (four bombers make said carrier work to survive) on Rebels, I can buy 6-8 Hyena squadrons threatening Venator/Impstar-tonnage ships in conjunction with the L-hulk’s HTLs.
